PLAY VINTAGE SELECTION (ENG)

Think of being in a movie from the 1960s, or in a period tableau vivant, among old clothes with full, below-the-knee skirts, things and accessories with a sophisticated charm that you admire with a hint of nostalgia. Well, that is what VINTAGE SELECTION is all about: a vintage culture festival, a workshop focused on creativity and innovation where even big brands, with their buyers and fashion designers have a chance to meet.

From Wednesday 22 to Sunday 26 January 2014, the Leopolda – that was originally the first railroad station in Florence – will host the 23rd edition of VINTAGE SELECTION, the market-fair featuring vintage fashions, accessories, miscellanea and remakes that logged over 13, 500 visitors, from places as near as Germany, and as far as the USA and Japan.

Almost at the same time (Tuesday 22 to Friday 24 January) as Vintage Selection, the Fortezza da Basso will host Pitti Filati, the key international trade fair featuring yarns for the knitting industry staged by Pitti Immagine. A research lab and observatory that looks onto lifestyle trends for the future, Pitti Filati presents international excellence in yarns to an equally international audience of buyers, representatives of style bureaus and designers for the major brands who come to Florence seeking inspiration. For five days, the unique synergy between the two events will transform the city of Florence into a huge fair-event featuring yarns and quality and vintage clothing.

Pitti Immagine and the Stazione Leopolda have chosen “PLAY VINTAGE SELECTION” as the slogan for this 23rd edition, to maintain continuity with “PLAY” the title-theme of the Spazio Ricerca at Pitti Filati.

“RETROGAMING” is the Vintage Selection theme. It is a hymn to the passion for old videogames that the “retrogamers” have brought back into style, as it were. Old consoles like the Atari 2600, Commodore 64 and the early Play Stations have become cult collectables - or they can be used alongside of the latest models in a past-present-future loop.

VINTAGE SELECTION, open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., is also an opportunity to see yourself back in the 1960s-70s: “LAMPINPOSA” (meaning essentially “in a flash”), is a photo-set using special Polaroid cameras where you can be immortalized wearing vintage clothes.

The Alcatraz area at the Leopolda is the setting for the exhibition entitled “THE GARBAGE REVOLUTION” by Rodolfo Lacquaniti: he has created 100 “mutants” using – and playing - with rejects, wastes and discards. VINTAGE TOURS is also back, showcasing legendary two- and four-wheel gems: Vespa, Lambretta, Ciao and more.

The great new addition at Vintage Selection 23 is the VINTAGE FOOD & BEVERAGE area. Now, for the first time, in addition to clothes, objects and vehicles, there is an area dedicated to historic food and beverage brands such as: BALADIN BIRRIFICIO AGRICOLO; CIOCCOLATO LA MOLINA; MOA-BIRRA ARTIGIANALE FIRENZE; NONNO LANCIA - REGGELLO (FI); SAPORI DEL LAGONERO; TORTAPISTOCCHI®- FIRENZE.

And of course, there is the Lounge Area, with DJ sets during the happy hour – each featuring music selected specifically for Vintage Selection. Radio Toscana, our radio partner will be presenting the background music throughout the fair.

The bar/restaurant in the lounge area will be managed by Tuscan Excelsia, one the top caterers in Florence.
